$7,125 Raised for The Canadian Cancer Society!

The Grande Prairie Storm were winners again last Saturday night in Revolution Place.

And this time all the credit goes to Storm fans!

While the team managed a point against the South Division leading Calgary Canucks in an overtime loss, Storm supporters again get full marks for their support of Secure Energy Shoot For The Cure – the annual team fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.

A total of $7,125 was raised at the 11th annual event bringing the overall total to near $100,000

“I have to thank the team at Secure Energy for partnering with us as title sponsor and of course the fans for supporting the Storm and donating to the cause as well,” said Storm business manager Dennis Rix. “To see all the fans embrace the Shoot for the Cure event was amazing.  The community and fan support for the Storm has been fantastic so far and we hope to continue giving the fans a great product on the ice and an entertaining game experience.”

WestJet also gets a shout-out. They donated a trip for two anywhere they fly – the grand prize in the WestJet Frisbee Toss. Frisbee were sold to fans and tossed onto the ice in the second intermission. The Storm also wore special pink jerseys that were auctioned off. After the game the top bidders, literally, got the jerseys off the players' backs during an on-ice ceremony.

Third-year coach/general manager Kevin Higo has been impressed with the support the team has received this year.

“Seeing the amount of money raised on Saturday during the Secure Energy Shoot For The Cure game was great to see,” said Higo. “It is another example of how supportive the Storm fans are here in Grande Prairie.”

Higo was also impressed with the big crowd of over 1,300 – the sixth time in six home games the team has drawn 1,000-plus.

“For all six games this year in Revolution Place the atmosphere and fan attendance has been very good.”

This weekend Higo is hoping his troops can continue the solid play – which has seen them win four and lose once in regulation and overtime – at Revolution when they host the Canmore Eagles on Friday and Olds Grizzlys on Saturday. Game time for both is 7:30 p.m.
