Letting One Slip

Call it one that got away.  Grande Prairie Storm couldn't hold a two-goal third period lead and ended up falling 4-3 in a shoot out in Drayton Valley Friday night.

Nathyn Mortlock, Sasha Laroque and Tyson McCallum had all scored to give the Storm a 3-1 lead a little over five minutes into the third and it looked like the Thunder were well on their way to their tenth loss in twelve games this AJHL season.  Instead, the home squad fought back and ended up tying the contest with under two minutes left in regulation time.

A scoreless overtime took this one to a shoot out, where the Thunder would get the lone tally to pick up the extra point on the night.  It was the third time this season the Storm have gone to a shoot out and the first time they haven't come away with the win.

One major positive for Grande Prairie is that its league worst powerplay had it best night of the year.  Storm hitting on two of six chances, while the Thunder were just 1-for-6.

Storm remain at the 500 mark for the year, now at 6-6-1.  They conclude their three game road trip Saturday night in Whitecourt.
