There will be regular season action for the Grande Prairie Storm!
The Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Board of Governors has given its blessing to a regular season campaign, meaning the Storm will suit up against the Bonnyville Pontiacs this Friday (Nov. 13) at home at 7 p.m.to kick things off.
Teams will play within a divisional format composed of a South Division and a North Division. A decision on the Annual AJHL Showcase, season end date, and playoff format will be announced at a later date.
The AJHL is operating under the Government of Alberta’s Junior, Collegiate and University League Guidance, developed to support leagues in returning to play and reducing the risk of transmission of COVID-19.
The AJHL Regular Season protocols are in alignment with Hockey Canada’s Return to Hockey Safety Guidelines and Hockey Alberta’s Return to Hockey Plan in focusing on the safety and wellbeing of all participants and spectators.
Arena capacity limits, social distancing protocols within the facility, and the ticket sales process will be dictated by the regulations within each community and the respective team. That means for Storm fans in Revolution Arena, for now, a limit of 100 fans. No League Passes will be accepted for entry, including all AJHL and CJHL accreditation, until facility capacity limits are significantly increased.
The 2020-21 AJHL Regular Season will be broadcast on HockeyTV.com - Annual Passes are now available to AJHL fans at an $80-discount through each team.
The Storm will play a 34-game regular season with all games, except for one, being played on the weekends. They will play the Pontiacs, Spruce Grove Saints, Lloydminster Bobcats, Sherwood Park Crusaders and Fort McMurray Oil Barons twice at home and twice away and six games, three at home and three away, against their nearest rivals the Whitecourt Wolverines and Drayton Valley Thunder.
First Storm road game weekend is Nov. 20-21 in Spruce Grove. The regular season, for now, is scheduled to end on March 20 for the Storm.
Grande Prairie finished up the exhibition season with six wins and two losses including 4-3 and 5-4 wins over the Olds Grizzlys on the weekend in Olds.
Ethan Strang led the team in scoring during exhibition play with four goals and four assists while playing in seven games.
