NEW FACE IN STORM CAMP

There is a new face in the Grande Prairie Storm camp and an old face who has returned.

The newcomer is Ryan Matthews.

He was the top scorer for the Dawson Creek Rage of the North American Hockey League last season with 23 goals.

The 5-foot11, 160 pound forward is a native of Lanford, B.C. who turns 20 on September 15.

Matthews played two seasons with the Rage with 58 points in 109 games and 178 penalty minutes.

Prior to joining the Rage he played Junior B on Victoria Island with the Kerry Park Islanders collecting 45 points in 40 games during the 2009-2010 season.

The old face back in camp is forward Nolan Yaremchuk. He had started camp with the team before being invited to take part in the Western Hockey League Victoria Royals camp where he spent the last week.

Storm coach/general manager Blaine Bablitz has also announced that forwards Jung Ahn and Mathew Naka have been released.

Both Matthews and Yaremchuk could be in the Storm lineup Friday night when the Storm host the Prince George Spruce Kings of the British Columbia Hockey League in an exhibition game at 7:30 p.m.

It is the team's last home pre-season game. Saturday they had to Prince George for a rematch to wind up the exhibition season.

Grande Prairie opens its regular season Sept. 7-8 weekend with games in Sherwood Park and Camrose before hosting the Lloydminster Bobcats in their home opener Sept. 14-15.
