RECAP Game 13: Storm’s Strong Special Teams Lead to Victory

The Grande Prairie Storm rolled into Calgary for the second time in 3 days, and they beat the Calgary Canucks on the back of strong special teams and a Cruz Coté hattrick. The Storm would open the scoring on the powerplay early in the first period; Nordstrom (7) from Webb and Boucher at 2:04. After trading  chances back and forth, the Storm would capitalize on another Canucks minor, with C. Coté (6) finding the back of the net from Webb and Boucher at 15:09.  The Canucks would cut the Storm's lead in half with only 7 seconds left in the first period. Shots would be even at 9-9 in the first period.

C. Coté (7) added another goal, from Morgan and Webb at 5:36 in the second period, and would get into some penalty trouble after going up 3-1. The Canucks would score on the powerplay, to make the score 3-2 at 9:29 in the second. The Storm and Canucks would continue to trade goals, as the Storm connected on the powerplay again: Webb (4) from Nordstrom and Okabe. Despite the Storm getting a powerplay late in the second, the Canucks would add a shorthanded tally at 19:23 in the second period. Shots were 13-13 in the second period, and the Storm held a 4-3 lead heading into the 3rd.

The Canucks would tie it up early in the third period, and that tie would hold until C. Coté completed the hattrick at 11:53 in the third from Power and Milot-Ouellet. The Storm would hold on to give Kaliel his 3rd win of the year.
