RECAP Game 8: Storm Win on the Road for Second Straight

The Grande Prairie Storm marched into Whitecourt on Tuesday night and secured 2 points at the Scott Safety Center. Nordstrom (3) opened up the scoring from Spadafore and Webb at 9:23 in the first period after some strong cycling in the Wolverines' end. The Wolverines would equalize 2 minutes later and would keep the game tied 1-1 heading into the second frame. Despite being outshot 20-13 in the second period, the Wolverines would score to take the lead 2-1 going into the final period. the Storm would dominate in the third period, outshooting the Wolverines 12-5. Nordstrom (4) would net his fourth in two games on the powerplay, from C. Cote and Boucher at 6:12 in the 3rd period to tie the game at 2-2. Shortly afterwards, the Storm would add another, C. Cote (4) from Spadafore and Blake. The Storm's special teams would come up huge as they not only killed a penalty off in the final two minutes, but added an empty net marker to seal the win: Webb (1) from W. Cote.

Matt Keillor, Head Coach & Associate General Manager, had this to say about hsi team's performance:

“When all 4 of our forward lines are moving their feet we are very difficult to match up against. Nordstrom was excellent both ways tonight, first to pucks on the forecheck and first back to pucks in the defensive zone. His line had the puck and controlled the play in the offensive zone all game. Blake had an outstanding night at the face-off dot, and gave us some important face-off wins late in the game. Whitecourt always plays us tough, and we knew it was going to be a close game. Our special teams was  the difference maker; we killed an early 3rd period penalty to keep it a 1 goal game and then Nordstrom tied the game on our next power play. Overall, a good road game defensively and a good all round team effort.”

The Storm take to the ice at home this coming weekend. Catch them in action Friday night against the surging Calgary Mustangs and Saturday night against the slumping Olds Grizzlys.
