RECAP Game 9: Lane Shines as Storm Outlast Mustangs

Kaeden Lane stopped 39 of 42 shots and all 3 shooters in the shootout en route to a 4-3 shootout victory over the visiting Calgary Mustangs. The Mustangs, who hadn't lost since September 23rd, came out slow and allowed the Storm to capitalize. C. Cote (5), from Milot-Ouellet and Blake, found the back of the net at 11:43 in the first period. This line would click again as Milot-Ouellet (5) would add another tally at 13:29 in the first period, from C. Cote and Blake. The Storm would overwhelm the Mustangs in the first period, outscoring them 2-0 and outshooting them 13-3. The Mustangs would fight back in the second period, cutting the Storm's lead in half and outshooting the Storm 19-7. The third period was a back and forth affair, with stellar saves at both ends of the rink. The Mustangs would tie the game at 3:21, but the Storm would answer back quickly off an end-to-end highlight goal from Boucher (1), unassisted. The Mustangs would respond to tie the game at 3-3 and the tie was taken into OT with the final shots being 37-30 in the Mustangs' favor.

 

Lane would make some outstanding saves in OT to preserve the tie, and we would head to a shootout. Lane would stop all 3 Mustangs shooters, and after Nordstrom and Okabe couldn't find the back of the net, Blake scored to finish off an incredibly entertaining hockey game. An electric crowd was treated to a barn burner of a hockey game, with chances being exchanged back and forth all game.
