SIGNING: Storm add Another Alberta-Grown Forward

The Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are excited to announce they have signed 2001-born forward Tyson Upper. The Calgary product has spent the last four seasons developing within the Edge School Hockey Program. Last season with the Edge Midget Prep team, the speedster scored 11 goals and added 18 helpers for 29 points in 33 games played.

Matt Keillor, Head Coach & Associate General Manager, had high praise for the youngster:

“He’s got an unbelievable amount of potential. He possesses that rare explosive speed, that extra gear that’s very dangerous. He’s very young but has a maturity in his game, he has a high ceiling and we are very excited to see what that will look like”.

Tyson says he has some familiarity with some other Strom youngsters:

“I look forward to reconnecting with Okabe who I played Bantam and went to school with. I also played with Nate Bierd at the Alberta Cup for Team Calgary South. I’m looking forward to moving to Grande Prairie and taking my game to the next level while connecting with the community. The Coaching staff has been really great and I have heard nothing but great things about the city’s support for the Storm. I can’t wait for camp and to get the season started!”

Keillor once again spoke to the importance of character:

“When I have parents on our roster calling me and saying you have an amazing person in Tyson, that speaks volumes. A lot of the players in this year's recruiting class have one thing in common, they are consistent professionals. They're positive, open to development, and working everyday to make themselves better hockey players.”

Fans will be able to get their first look at Tyson's speed August 24th at 7pm when the Storm hit the ice for main camp. Schedules will be available online and at the rink and all ice times are open to the public.
