Storm complete Jan. 10th trade with Oil Barons
The Grande Prairie Storm are pleased to announce that they have completed the futures portion of the Jan. 10th trade with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The trade was announced as 1996 born defense man Brett Doiron going to the Oil Barons in exchange for future considerations. The futures were named at that time and have been officially announced as the CJHL playing rights of Brett Doiron will return to the Storm as well the CJHL playing rights of 1995 born defense man Brett McNeil will also come to the Storm.
Coach / General Manager Kevin Higo: ” When we did the trade on Jan. 10th we knew the trade would hurt the Storm in the present, but benefit the Storm in the future. At that time we traded away an 18 year old defense man and now we are returning 2 defense man that have Western Canadian Cup experience and a combined 4 years of junior A hockey. I have known Brett Doiron for awhile now and have seen his game develop into being a hard to play against, strong skating and effective D-man. His time in Fort Mcmurray has helped him mature and learn the AJHL game better. When he returns he will be a player with 2 full years of Junior A under his belt with all of last year in the AJHL as well as his time in the Maritime league. The transition for him to come to Grande Prairie next year will be an easy one as he knows most of the players returning and is familiar with the city and rink. Brett McNeil will enter his 3rd year in the AJHL and is a puck moving D-man that will help our power play. He has been a leader everywhere he has played, and we expect him to be a part of our leadership group this year as well. He is very well respected around the AJHL and adding a veteran D-man like him will help the Storm both on and off the ice.
Adding both Brett's will strengthen our depth on the blue line and give the Storm some added skill and grit. Both of them compete and will make playing against the Storm harder. This futures trade was the 2nd trade that happened on Jan. 10th, 2015. The first was the trade between the Salmon Arm Silverbacks and Storm with Karl El-Mir coming to the Storm and Dustin Gorgi going to the Silverbacks. The Storm will be announcing the futures portions of their other trades as the off season continues.
