The Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League have finalized their coaching staff for the 2019 season with the hiring of Goaltending Coach Jonny Webb and Goaltending Consultant Chris Mason.
Webb is a Goaltending coach with Top Prospects Goaltending based out of Calgary, Alberta. For the last 3 seasons, Webb has been the Goaltending coach for both the Bantam AAA Bisons and Midget AAA Buffaloes. He also spent the 2018-19 season as a goalie consultant with the ACAC Sait Trojans men?s hockey team.
??We are very excited to bring Jonny on as our goaltending coach?? says General Manager Mark Bomersback. ?He comes highly recommended by his peers, he is very prepared, goal driven and is eager to step in and work at improving the development and performance our goaltenders.??
The newly hired Webb adds:
?I am beyond excited to join the Storm organization! I?m looking forward to getting to know the coaching staff and players. From what I?ve heard the Storm are a driven group with heightened expectations every season. I can?t wait to make the jump to the junior level and do what I can to help make those expectations become a reality.?
The Storm have also added former NHL goaltender Chris Mason as a Goalie Consultant. Mason joins the Storm with an impressive playing resume, highlighted by a World Championship Gold Medal with Team Canada in 2006-07. Mason then followed up with a Sliver Medal at the 2008-09 World Championships with the tournament’s top save percentage and lowest goals against average. Chris has local ties to the Peace Region, starting his goaltending career with 2 years in the Grande Prairie minor hockey system.
Mark Bomersback spoke about what Chris will bring to the program:
?The Storm are very excited to have the opportunity to add a person of Chris?s caliber, professionalism, and experience to our staff. Chris currently resides in Nashville and works for the Nashville Predators in the NHL as a TV broadcaster, but he will be watching our games regularly on Hockey TV. He will provide support and mentorship for both Jonny Webb and our promising group of goaltenders as we look to take the next step this coming season.”
Both hires complete the Grande Prairie Storm coaching staff for the 2019-20 season. Fans can get their first look at the Storm on August 16th when training camp opens.
