Commitment Alert!
The Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are proud to announce 99 Forward Nick Trela has signed a Letter of Intent for the 2018/19 season. The 6’2 175lbs native of Trenton Michigan was the assistant captain for Victory Honda U18 which competes in the Tier1 Elite Hockey League and U18 AAA. Nick recorded 23 goals and 38 assists for a total of 62pts and 71 penalty minutes between the two leagues.
Nick says it was a comfortability factor when making his decision. “I felt really comfortable with the staff talking to them early on. Also, I’m intrigued by the ties back into Michigan college hockey”.
Those ties would include Assistant coaches Dennis Rix and Blake Cosgrove who both received business degrees while playing Division 1 hockey for Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan respectively.
“I think I can bring a high pace of play night in and night out. I like setting my teammates up for goals! Also, I love to use my size and get dirty in the corners.
Head Coach Assistant General Manager Matt Keillor seen the same things in Nicks game.
“What impressed me right away was his skating and compete level. It’s very rare a player of his size is exceptional in both those areas. His coaches spoke very highly of his character which Bomersback and our entire staff put a huge premium on. We had some very good conversations and I was impressed with Nicks maturity. Victory Honda is considered a top Midget program in the US and we have seen guys like Blankenburg in Okotoks come out of that program and have an immediate impact in the AJHL. Make no mistake Nick can put the puck in the net, I think he will complement some of our smaller skilled forwards very well”.
Fans can get their first look at Nick when the Storm hit the ice for main camp late August at Revolution Place.
