A lack of offense was once again to blame, as the Grande Prairie Storm fell 2-1 Saturday night in Fort McMurray. In their three game road trip this week, the Storm scored just three goals in losing every contest—albeit one game in overtime.
For the second night in a row, a poor start also came back to haunt the Storm, as the hometown Oil Barons jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the game was ten minutes old. Tanner Labbe's powerplay marker at 5:50 of the second period cut the deficit in half, but the Storm were never able to find the equalizer.
Goaltending continues to be the bright light for Grande Prairie. One night after Curtis Skip was sharp between the pipes in a 3-2 overtime loss, Nick Kulmanovsky was the Storm's player of the game, making 36 saves to keep his club in it.
With the loss, the Storm drop to 6-5-2 on the season. They return home to the Canada Games Arena for a pair of games this coming weekend, as they host the Camrose Kodiaks on Friday and the Calgary Mustangs on Saturday. Gametime for each is 7:30 pm.
