Grande Prairie will play host to the Game Day Speaker Series.

Hockey Alberta officials – as well as the coaches for the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Grande Prairie Storm and Drayton Valley Thunder – will impart their knowledge on registrants.

“It was something we decided we wanted to try. We did the Western Hockey League two years ago, and were met with success,” said Blake Cosgrove, a consultant with Hockey Alberta’s Centre Northwest region.

“We are thinking we’ll try the AJHL and then maybe the CIS. But with Grande Prairie being the team in my area of coverage, we felt it was time to test it out and build from there.”

It was offered in February in Grande Prairie, and features a seminar session that can develop younger coaches, as well as admission to that night’s Storm game.

“Some topics may be for older age groups, but we do want all coaches and anyone interested in how things run to show up,” he said.

“We really do hope this event takes hold here in the north.”

The seminar will be at Revolution Place in Grande Prairie, with check-in at 5 p.m.

The $45 (plus GST) registration includes a presentation from Hockey Alberta coach mentor Fran Gow, pre and post-game sessions with the coaches for the battling Storm and Thunder, a food/drink voucher, a ticket to the game, a Hockey Alberta resource package and a gift.

There are 20 seats available, and they are on a first-come, first-serve basis.
