Storm Make a Trio of Moves on the January 10 Trade Deadline

The Grande Prairie Storm currently sit second in the AJHL North Division with a 19-10-3 record . The Storm is off to one of the best starts in franchise history, and with the January 10th CJHL ( Canadian Junior Hockey League) trade deadline coming and going this past Friday, GM Mark Bomersback decided to bolster the line up and make a trio of roster moves.
In the first deal of the day, Grande Prairie grabbed 2004 Forward Kalius Green from the Bonnyville Pontiacs in return for future considerations. This year being his first year with the Pontiacs, the 6’0 180 lb Kelowna, BC product suited up for 27 games,  scoring 9 goals and 14 assists, totaling 23 points. Bonnyville currently sits 5th place in the AJHL North division, 6 points out of a playoff spot. GM Mark Bomersback had this to say about the addition of Kailus. ” Kailus was a guy we had targeted for awhile, as far back as 2021-2022, when I first saw him playing for West Kelowna in the BCHL as an affiliate player. We are very excited and happy to get a deal done with Bonnyville and get him in a Storm jersey. He’s a player that does everything well and can play either center or right wing, while playing both specialty teams. He’s a veteran Junior A player and anytime you can add a player of his calibre and what he brings, it’s a good day for the hockey club”.
In the second move of the day, GM Bomersback signed  free agent 2004 forward Carter Streek. Streek, a native of Kamloops BC,  has 190 plus Western Hockey League games under his belt, spanned over parts of 3 seasons, with Saskatoon and Spokane. In those games, Streek tallied 36 goals 24 assists, totaling 60 points, while racking up 149 penalty minutes. His best year came in the 2022-2023 season where he scored  18 goals while adding 11 assists in 63 games for the Spokane Chiefs. GM Bomersback had this to say about the addition of Streek. ” Very excited to sign Carter. He’s a guy that is going to step in here and help with the offence , make our PP that much more dangerous and bring another level of competition to our line up. We like our group and what the older guys and younger guys have done up to this point. Adding a veteran like Carter takes this group to another level. He’s a competitor and wants to help this team win.”
The third move of the day was the signing of free agent 2006 Dman Cade Kozak. The Insanti, MN, USA product was playing for the Colorado Grit of the NAHL early this season. In 21 games, the rookie defenceman racked up 2 goals and 3 assists. GM Mark Bomersback had this to say about Kozak.” Cade is a good skating, offensive minded Dman who can move pucks , create offence, and get up and down the ice. He will fit in nicely with what we have already in place back there.”
Unfortunately, when new guys come in some guys have to be moved out. Forward Johnny Maruna was moved to Olds for future considerations and Damian Palmieri was moved to Camrose for future considerations as well. The Storm would like to thank both Johnny and Damian for their contributions to the Storm Organization and wish them all the best with their new teams.
