The Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League have acquired 2000 born defenseman Joseph Borthwick from the Coquitlum Express of the BCHL for future considerations. Borthwick had an impressive senior year in Michigan with Detroit Catholic Central High School with 6 goals and 21 helpers in 23 games. The 19-year-old then went on to help his team win the Division 1 State Championship before being selected to play for Team Michigan with current Storm players Brent Loukus and Sam Erkkila. In 10 games with the Express this season, Borthwick has 1 goal and 2 assists.
Head Coach & Associate General Manager Matt Keillor had this to say on the trade:
?Joe was someone we were familiar with from scouting Brent and Sam with Team Michigan. He?s a dynamic skater and possesses good offensive instincts. Joe is very mature for his age and everyone we have spoken with has noted his high character and leadership in his game. I think he will be impactful in our room and will help boost our offense from the back end.?
Borthwick is expected to join his new team this week as they prepare for a 3 in 3 this weekend in Camrose, Bonnyville and Sherwood Park.
