GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB – Strong local community support has resulted in almost 75 per cent of the tickets being sold for a special luncheon in Grande Prairie featuring retired National Hockey League players, and current media personalities, Jamie McLennan and Jason Strudwick.
McLennan, a former NHL goaltender, currently is a TSN hockey analyst, while Strudwick is a TSN radio host and a former NHL defencemen. They are the keynote speakers at the event, where all proceeds will go towards the creation of a new Try-Hockey program in Grande Prairie and Hockey Alberta Foundation’s Every Kid Every Community program.
The luncheon is part of the Every Kid Every Community Speaker Series, presented by ATB Investor Services. Hockey Alberta Foundation is hosting the event in conjunction with a local partnership group comprised of members from Grande Prairie Minor Hockey Association, Grande Peace Athletic Club and the Grande Prairie Junior A Storm.
The lunch event will take place on Tuesday, February 17 from 11:30 am-1:30 pm in the Main Ballroom at the Holiday Inn & Suites, Grande Prairie (9816-107 Street).
Live and silent auctions have been added to the event. Some of the items up for grabs include:
– Team of 3 (plus celebrity) entry at the Hockey Alberta Foundation Golf Classic including a one-night stay at the Solara Resort & Spa in Canmore (July 26-27).
– NASCAR Driver for a day
– US Open Golf Tournament Package
– Autographed NHL Jerseys
– Registration for Hockey Alberta Regional Centre Skills Camps
The Host Committee is hoping to sell out the remaining tickets, and is relying on the continued support from Grande Prairie and the Peace Region to ensure the event’s success.
Tickets can be purchased individually, as a table of eight, or through a special sponsorship package from the Grande Prairie Minor Hockey office (780-539-6177) or the Grande Prairie Storm office (780-538-4919). With every individual ticket or table of eight sold, the Grande Prairie Storm will be include a game ticket.
Sponsorship cut-off date is Monday, February 9, while the last day to purchase individual tickets and tables is Monday, February 16.
About Grande Prairie’s new Try-Hockey Program
The new Try-Hockey Program in Grande Prairie will see the partners, in collaboration with the Hockey Alberta Northwest Regional Centre, run a multi-week program to provide 30-35 kids without previous hockey experience the opportunity to try the sport for the first time. The program will include weekly on-ice and off-ice sessions with a focus on introducing participants to the fundamental skills of hockey, such as skating, passing and shooting, in a safe and fun environment.
About Every Kid Every Community
The Every Kid Every Community program started in 2011 as a pilot program and has grown to include both program and player assistance grants. Local community groups can apply for a grant to create and sustain programs that address the diverse landscape of kids today. To date, the program has awarded more than $77,000 in grants, in 24 different Alberta communities, and assisted more than 1,400 kids.
