Silver for Storm

Preseason bragging rights were on the line Sunday afternoon in Peace River.  When the final buzzer sounded at the Baytex Arena, it was the Whitecourt Wolverines who hoisted the Weberville Aggregate Cup by beating the Grande Prairie Storm 5-3 in the final of the four-team tournament, hosted by the NWJHL's North Peace Navigators.

Wolverines grabbed a 2-0 lead by the time the game was just over three minutes old and never looked back, as they led 3-1 and 4-2 at the period breaks.  Stephen Doanne tallied twice in a losing cause for the Storm, with Blake Bosch notching the other.

Grande Prairie qualified for the final by beating Drayton Valley 5-2 Saturday night, while Whitecourt downed Bonnyville 4-1.  In the consolation final on Sunday afternoon, the Thunder nipped the Pontiacs 6-5 in a shootout.

Storm ended their preseason with a record of 2-3.  They now have the week to prepare for the start of the regular season.  Drayton Valley visits Grande Prairie for a pair this coming Friday and Saturday to begin the 2013-14 campaign.  Gametime each night is 7:30.
