The Grande Prairie Storm is proud to announce that Captain Colin Doherty has committed to the University of Alberta Golden Bears Men’s Hockey team for the 2026-2027 season. Doherty, a Sherwood Park, AB local, has played 134 games for the Storm since the 2023-2024 season. Doherty was named Storm Rookie of the Year in 2023-2024, and he currently leads the team in goals and points.
GM Mark Bomersback said, “The Grande Prairie Storm staff are very excited and happy for Colin and his family. University of Alberta is a top program with a rich history that is right in Colin’s backyard. It’s a team/school he truly wanted the opportunity to play for and attend next season. This achievement is well deserved, reflecting his outstanding work ethic, dedication, character, leadership abilities, and the complete 200-foot game he brings night in and night out. Congratulations, Colin- as a staff we wish you nothing but the best moving forward!”
Doherty added, “I’m extremely honoured and grateful to commit to such a great program like the University of Alberta. I would like to thank my family, friends, and the whole Storm organization for the endless support to get me to this point.”
