Storm Land Cade Mason

GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB

April 6, 2019

The Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are proud to announce that 2001 born defenceman Cade Mason has committed to the team for the 2019/20 season. The Red Deer product had an impressive season with his home town Midget AAA Chiefs scoring 3 goals and 27 assists for 30 points in 34 regular season games. The mobile defensemen then put up another 3 assists in 5 playoff games. Mason's 30 points put him second among defensive scoring in the Alberta Midget Hockey League.

Matt Keillor, Head Coach of the Grande Prairie Storm, added his thoughts about the signing:

“Mark (General Manager, Mark Bomersback) called me after watching a game down South and I could hear the excitement in his voice when he described Cade’s play. When I hear things like the coach has him on the ice in every situation or he’s always making the right play, then you have my attention. The game has really evolved especially from the back end. The stay-at-home defenceman has become a thing of the past. Your defense needs to be mobile, and has to attack and defend with speed and pace. Cade will bring those elements to the Storm, and I have no doubt he will be a threat at both ends of the rink for us. When I first sat down with Cade, I could tell he wants to be a hockey player, he’s a student of the game and he comes from a hockey family. He’s a leader on and off the ice and has a really bright future ahead of him.”

Mason says he’s excited about the future:

“I’m so excited to be a member of the Storm. Everyone from the board, general manager, the coaching staff and even the community have been unbelievable and have showed me exactly what this organization is all about. Because of that experience I know for myself I made the right decision to sign with this great group of people.”

Mason is expected to join the Storm when main camp opens up in late August.
