Storm add size and skill on the back end with Maarhuis.
The Storm are excited to announce the signing of 99 Defensemen Nowel Maarhuis. The 6’2” 205lbs BC product played all 40 regular season games last year for the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds of the BCMML. Nowel led all Fraser Valley D in goals with 5, while adding 10 assists and an impressive team leading 86 penalty minutes.
Coach Keillor: The first time I saw Nowel he wasn’t hard to notice, usually when you see someone that big and that strong the first thing you think is he won’t be able to skate. That’s not the case with Nowel, he has the ability to skate with the puck and make plays under pressure. He has great hands for a big guy and he can really shoot the puck. When talking with our BC contacts I kept hearing words like big, mean, skilled, and can skate; that sounded like someone we wanted to pursue.
