Montgomery Named Captain of 2016/2017 Storm

Storm name Montgomery Captain

The Grande Prairie Storm are pleased to announce that 20 year old Brendan Montgomery has been named team Captain for the 2016-2017 season. Montgomery enters his 3rd year with the Storm and is a veteran of over a 100 AJHL games. Last year Montgomery served as an assistant captain under both Blake Bosch and Ian Mclellan.

Coach / GM Kevin Higo: “We met with Monty in early August about the upcoming season and it was clear he had a real solid summer of training and was determined to have a good 20 year old season. Right from day #1 of training camp he has shown strong leadership and has taken control both on and off the ice. His experience was an important part of naming him captain, as well the fact he started his junior A career with the Storm and is entering his 3rd year. We have been very lucky in the past 2 years to have very solid captains in both Blake Bosch and Ian Mclellan. When we told them both that Monty was going to be this years captain they were excited and both agreed with the decision.”

Brenden Montgomery: “It is a honour and privilege to be named captain of the storm this year. I think I am well prepared to have my best season yet, and being the new leader of the Storm and one of the veteran guys, I think that is expected of me. This season you can expect a much different storm team. The boys have been putting in a lot of work to bring the team around to where it has been in years past. Playoffs are a must this year. I know me personally, and all the other guys, will do anything we can to get there. Coming up short is not an option.”

The Storm lead by Montgomery head to Camrose on Friday for showcase weekend, they will play the Camrose Kodiaks, Olds Grizzlys, and Whitecourt Wolverines all on the road before hosting Camrose and Spruce Grove at home Oct.7th and 8th.
