The Grande Prairie Storm are excited to announce the signing of 2005 forward Colin Doherty and 2005 Defenceman Benjamin Simpson. Both Players are from Sherwood Park, Alberta and both played for the Sherwood Park Ennis Kings in the U18 division of the AEHL. The 5’11” Doherty suited up for 37 regular season games scoring 11 times adding 19 assists to go along with 76 penalty minutes. The 5’9” captain Simpson suited up for 38 regular season games scoring 2 times adding 25 assists to go along with 32 penalty minutes.
Storm GM, Mark Bomersback had this to say about both players. “With Colin we are getting a great character kid that brings a bit of everything to our line up. He’s a 200′ player that plays the game the right way, has a good skill set and is always involved in the game / on the score sheet one way or another. He can play the middle or left wing and a player we feel can move up and down the line up when needed. I see him being a fan favorite at the Bonnetts Energy Centre.” With Ben like Colin we are getting another quality individual. He’s a very mobile dman with great edges that can move pucks and create offence. He has a good hockey IQ and doesn’t get himself in trouble very often by the way he skates and thinks the game. We are very excited to add both these players to our line up next season.”
Colin Doherty had this to say about joining the Storm.” I am honoured to have signed with such a great organization that has an unbelievable facility and fan base. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a kid to play in the AJHL and I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity with the Storm. I can’t wait to get up there and get the season going.”
Simpson on his thoughts. ” I’m excited to have signed with such a well rounded organization as I continue to pursue my hockey aspirations. I look forward to playing in front of and representing such a strong hockey community in Grande Prairie. Lets go Storm!”
We would like to welcome both Colin and Ben along with their families to the Grande Prairie Storm Organization.
